Solar Power System Near-Real-Time Monitoring

Solar Panel Array Summary

Reflected solar radiation is measured at the CCHRC PV Monitoring station. Incoming solar radiation is measured at the CCHRC Met station on the north east corner of the grounds. Voltage and current measurements are from the four tracked solar panel arrays. The trackers may be involved in experiments over time and may not be tracking the sun at all times.

This shows the reflected solar radiation coming from the road and ground surface in front of the solar arrays. During snow cover, the reflected radiation may contribute additional power to the solar arrays. Understanding this potential energy source will help evaluate the overall efficiency of the solar arrays. The solar radiation sensor is mounted downward at the elevation of the solar array trackers.

This shows the incoming solar radiation for recording hours of sunshine as well as total incident solar energy. The sensors (pyranometers) providing the solar radiation data below are mounted on the same plane as each array. This means the solar radiation measured by the pyranometers is the same solar radiation each panel array is exposed to.
