AAIC Gulkana Glacier Avalanche Forecast Project: Diagnostics

The Alaska Avalanche Information Center (AAIC) Gulkana Glacier Avalanche Forecast Project winter hazards station (AGW01) is located on the top of a ridge above the Gulkana Glacier near the Denali Fault. The below series of data plots show diagnostic data. "Click" on the various buttons to see different diagnostic parameters, such as voltage and current. The data are plotted on different time scales which may be seen by selecting the various time period buttons.

Current Station Power Diagnostics at AGW01

The following are a series of plots showing the near-real time station power-system data for AGW01. Four Concorde 104 Amp-Hr 1040T batteries power the station. The total capacity of the battery bank is 416 total Amp-Hrs.

Station Technical Information

The AGW01 Winter Hazards station is solar-powered and uses equipment primarily from Campbell Scientific (CS) to read sensors, store and process data, and provide telemetry. A CR1000X data logger is used to measure and store data from a variety of sensors and allow operator control of the station functions.

Data are automatically retrieved every hour from the station using a Windows version of Loggernet Admin and posted online at least every 2-3 hours. This allows for a robust and secure communication system. The near-real-time data display is achieved through RTMC-Pro.

On the RTMC plot above, battery voltage is being measured by both the CR1000X datalogger and a CH201 12 V Charging Regulator. The CH201 also measures the soloar panel voltage of the SP90-L 90 W solar panel, as well as the battery, load, and solar currents. The outside air temperature is being measured by a HygroVUE5 air temperature and relative humidity sensor. Finally, the CH201 and CR1000X measure their own internal temperatures.
